Switch
Switch
began in 1973 as four high school kids who loved the Beatles
and other British invasion groups from the 1960's. The group
consists of brothers John Connelly and Steve Conelly, with long
time friend, Tom Lorentz. They perform accompanied by a three
piece horn section and keyboardist. Switch has been named "one
of Western New York's top three show bands over the last twenty
years" and is best known for its tight vocal harmonies, stage
charisma, and remarkable ability to perform music by such groups
as the Beatles, Buckinghams, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago,
Eagles, Grass Roots, Hollies, Kinks, Huey Lewis, Mamas &
Papas, Police, and the Romantics, to name just a few. The group
has also written and performs some of its own original material
which appears on it's recently released C.D. titled "After All
These Years".
John
Connelly is Switch's founding member, Bass Player, and Lead Vocalist
and has successfully lead the group since its inception. His passion for
music derives in part from his love of the Beatles. By day, John owns and
operates a promotional company based in Lancaster, New York that employs
approximately 20 people.
Steve
Connelly has been Switch's Drummer and Vocalist since 1979, when
he joined forces with brother John to form a lasting rhythm section and
become the backbeat of the band. His past musical experience includes 18
months in London, England where he performed and recorded. By day, Steve
is an attorney practicing Immigration law.
Tom
Lorentz has been with Switch over 17 years and is the group's master
of instruments playing guitar, keyboards, and harmonica, while also supplying
lead vocals. In the past, he has done extensive writing and recording in
Nashville, Tennessee. By day, Tom owns and operates a van conversion business
employing 22 people that modify vehicles to meet the needs of physically
challenged drivers and passengers.
Switch's
horn section consists of Michael DiGiacomo on saxophone, Ray Skalski
on trombone, and Nelson Starr on trumpet.
Michael
DiGiacomo is a graduate of Canisus College in Buffalo,
NY and is presently attending the University of Buffalo's Medical
School. He was the recipient of Williamsville East high school's
"Dr. Johannes I. Olsen" award for outstanding music student
and school activity. He is an alumni of the All State Jazz Ensemble,
Erie County Jazz Ensemble, and the Canisus College Jazz Ensemble
and Concert Band.
Ray
Skalski has
had a distinguished musical career having played trombone for
Doc Severinson, jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell, and Englebert
Humperdink, as well as having toured much of the United States.
He has made numerous radio and television appearances including
performances on WBFO, WBEN, "AM Buffalo" and "PM Magazine" and
has contributed to many studio recordings.
The
lovable Nelson Starr has played trumpet with the Tommy Dorsey
Orchestra, the Glen Miller Orchestra, Ray Charles' band, and has performed
under the baton of Doc Serverinson. Nelson adds his many years of experience,
musical expertise, and good humor to Switch's horn section.
Ken
Kaufman has been rounding out Switch's sound on Keyboards since
2001. He is well known for his past membership in the group "The Road",
and for his creative jingle writing and musical advertisements produced
through his company, Ad Songs. Ken was highly instrumental in the production,
recording, and musical performance of Switch's C.D. titled "After All These
Years." He has been an invaluable addition to the band.
